Destinaton Wedding Photography - Scotland

I just wanted to issue a quick grovelling apology for being so neglectful of my blog recently. There always seems to be something else more pressing so I'm going to make a real effort in the next few months to post more often.

I wanted to share some photos for a lovely April wedding in deepest Scotland. Lorna and Nigels wedding was really very special. Held in one of Scotlands premier wedding venues, set on the shore of a Loch, the entire weekend was packed full of activities, tranquil beauty, and of course the awesome ceremony the bride and groom had.

I won't tell the story of how 30 of the wedding guests came down with a stomach virus, including the groom who only just managed to make it through the speeches! Hopefully these photos will bring back memories of the happier part of the day!

Dog Photographer in Nottingham, now in partnership with Hathern Dog Rescue!

This weekend I had the pleasure of meeting the lovely people at Hathern Dog Rescue. They work tirelessly to look after rescue dogs. Walk them, feed them, clean them, medicate them and manage to raise thousands of pounds a year to do all of this. Just this week a dog managed to eat his harness and the operation to remove it from his intestines cost them £1200. Lucky, lovely doggy.

We decided to take some photos of those dogs who, for no apparent reason, have been with the rescue a long time and don't appear to be enquired about by potential adopters. The hope is that some lovely photos might get people through the doors. Because thats all it takes really. I defy you not to love every single one of these gorgeous dogs the moment you meet them, because I am head over heels with them all!

My deepest thanks go to Hathern Dog Rescue for having me along. I can't wait to go back to do more photos and help out with fundraising at their events. What brilliant people!

Winter portraits can be fun!!!

I know the prospect of wandering around remote parts of the city in the freezing cold can seem daunting, but there are certain advantages. Winter light can be really quite beautiful, even on overcast days, and if you avoid the main shopping areas people are pretty scarce and less likely to get in the way.

I do have to say a big thank you to Hasnat for this shoot. He was a real trooper in very cold and slightly wet weather, and was beyond patient when my flash decided not to behave itself throughout the shoot. Unfortunately we only had 30 minutes together as he got called away for a modeling job in London so below is what we managed in the short time we had. Sally and Danny's Wedding - Wedding Photography in Nottingham

I should really start by saying Happy New Year to everyone! I hope this year is great for you all. My plans are to really push my photography and business model forwards and my resolution is to be more productive and proactive. Busy photographers are happy photographers after all.

I just wanted to share some photos from my final wedding last year. It was a little bit special for me as I went to school with Sally, so to be a part of her wedding was something to really treasure for me. I got to see a few other people from school too and it was great to see them all grown up and doing so well! Even if I did manage to trip over and land on my face in front of them all! Great impression after ten years huh?

Sally and Danny's day was just great. The were wed at the Guildhall, which is the oldest building in Leicester and the reception was held at the swanky Hotel Maiyango. Everywhere I turned there were lovely personal touches from the bride and groom... antique tea cups with flowers in, mulled wine and mince pies, brass band music, and Sally's dad's band even played at the evening reception. The whole day just really summed them up.

I have to thank the Sally, Danny and their extended families for making me so welcome. I had a great time and hope Sally realises how great she looks in photo's now!

Nottingham Wedding Photographer - Cinderella by the Nottingham Arts Theatre

On Friday I had the pleasure of photographing the dress rehearsal for "Cinderella" by the Nottingham Arts Theatre. The stress was palpable - the first performance was at 2pm the next day so they had to get it right! Cue lots of running around on their part!

I have to say they were fantastic. The director was a real perfectionist and it showed in the performance as everyone gave 110%. I really have to apologise for laughing so loudly at one point - it must have disturbed everyone but it was such a funny show!

Business training with Annabel Williams CPT

The start of November kicked off with a great three-day training session in Cumbria with the self-proclaimed "fairy godmother of photographers" Annabel Williams. Her training outfit have been teaching photographers to be business people for the best part of 15 years and they have an outstanding reputation.

I won't waffle on about the content of the course, but we did spend a day taking some shots under the tutilage of the brilliant Brett Harkness, so a few of those are posted below. My heartfelt thanks goes to the entire CPT team, who smile 24 hours a day and are so warm and welcoming, but especially to Catherine Connor and Jane Breakell for their expert guidance. I will definately be back again!

Jess the Jumpy Cocker Spaniel

Following on from Gills dog shoot, I had a shoot with the owner of the rather lovely Jess.

Jess is a jumpy Cocker Spaniel, full of beans and a cuddle bag of fur. She loves nothing more than treats and balls, but for this occasion we were treatless as she has some weight management problems.

So all we had in our arsenal was a ball, some encouragement and a lot of running around with her!

Its great to have such a good natured, loving dog as a subject. It means I don't have to worry about being bitten or bashed into (which is a very real concern with some of the dogs I have worked with!).

Gills Dog Shoot

I recently had the pleasure of shooting Gills dogs: Leo and Ben.

They were boisterous! Boisterous dogs make the best, and the hardest, of dog photography sessions. If you could take that energy and just direct it, it would be incredible. But you can't. So instead you run around like someone set your pants on fire, rolling around on the floor and ending up dirty and bruised. It's actually a pretty good feeling. Achievement in the face of adversity.

Once home, I was delighted when I moved the photos onto my computer and got to work. All the energy paid off!

My thanks to Gill for having me, and to her boys for giving me such a fun time, even if they are the craziest dogs ever!

My Very First Blog

As a way to present myself and some of my work in a different way to clients, today I took the plunge.

I am now a blogger.

Hey-ho, I've been called worse! Blogging is actually a great way for photographers to give you a peek into their lives and into their jobs, including the results. After all, if you are wanting to book me to take a portrait of your child or similar, you'll want to see what similar jobs I've done recently, surely?

I've got a lot coming up in the next few weeks, including some time off, some commercial and portrait work for a wonderful hypnotherapist, and a business training course with no other than the self-proclaimed fairy god mother of photographers, Annabel Williams. Exciting times! I'm also possibly going to be doing some equine portraiture with a gorgeous horse. Scary stuff!

Please enjoy the blog and the photos. I do this because I love it, and I hope other people will love it too.
